Morning breaks with eerie silence in the rural Midwest. Jake, Maggie, and Don each wake one late spring morning to find that nothing works—phones, cars, clocks. Everything involving electricity is dead.
As the reality of what has happened comes to light, they begin to leave their homes, some in search of answers, others in desperate need of help. People around them are dying, planes are crashing, riots are forming, and no one can do anything about it.
The three eventually cross paths and head into an uncertain future together in hopes of again finding balance—homeostasis—in this new world without power. That is, if they can survive.

First, the good things:> Near perfect editing. Sentence structure is solid, spelling is acceptable, and chapter delineation makes sense.
> Character development. The reader develops an affection for the principals and their principles.
> Believability. No space aliens or make-believe science. The scenarios as described could really happen (except for the ending).
Now, the not so good:
> The ending sucked. I won't spoil the book but the author should ignore the ending as written if there is a sequel.
> Did I mention the ending sucked? It came out of nowhere without a drip of foreshadow. It was disconnected from the entire story. If it weren't for this I would have given it four stars.
Overall, I enjoyed the novel. The action scenes were appropriate to the situations, the suspense was well developed, and I felt a connection with the characters. There are several good survival tips w/o sounding like a plug for specific products. But the ending really was stupid.

Homeostasis Lost eBook Kyan Yauchler Reviews
I am a huge fan of all types of "end of the world" fiction and have read literally dozens during the past few months. This is definitely one of the best. The characters are amazing, the plot both believable and engrossing, the challenges likely, the entire story is extremely well thought out, well written, and an amazing novel. Thank you!
Strongly recommended to anyone that is a fan of this type of book, the EMP doesn't turn the world into zombies, it just messes up virtually everything else! Read the sample and I promise you will buy the book!
Believable story about a group of rural mid-westerners who come together after a strong solar flare destroys everything electrical......including the electrical power grid, all batteries and electronics.
This is a pretty good story. Characters are likable and the situations that they encounter after the catastrophic event seem very realistic. No zombies, no political soapbox and no-one in the story is over-prepped.......just a group of ordinary people trying to adjust and survive in a challenging new world without electricity and modern transportation.
Book is well edited for spelling and grammar. However, it is a little over descriptive and wordy at times and I skimmed a lot to get to the end.......and the ending itself (the last couple of pages) didn't really seem to "fit" the story.
This is not a bad post-apocalyptic novel. The characters are fairly well fleshed-out. The story moves at a decent clip.
There is a monster solar flare that knocks out all power to electrical devices and anything that needs a battery. The entire action of the story takes place in a small-town in America, and a farm or two thrown into the mix. There are only a handful of characters that the author chooses to write about. How they get together, manage to survive marauding groups, live together, overcome previous prejudices, etc, brings the whole book into focus.
There are some scary moments in this story, but by and large, it moves along in an almost unbelievably easy way. The sun is shining, food is always available, everyone gets along with everyone else. No changes of clothing? Not to worry, the dead wife of the main character has loads of clothes in her closet. One of the other characters can use them for the women in the group and even manage to make some baby clothes out of a few dresses.
This was a "nice" book to read. I should have been more horrified by the situation, but I wasn't. All the while reading, I kept thinking to myself, "This isn't so bad.I could survive this."
My major objection to the book was the dreadful editing. The spelling was unbelievable "flower" spilled on the floor, "he held the "reigns" in his hands... were just two of the many mistakes in the book. But overall, a good read.
What happens if an EMP takes out all the power? All the things we take for granted, water, refrigerators, travel, and even communication!
Everyone just wakes up one day to find the world has changed... Was anyone prepared? the book is about a group of strangers that find each other and what happens in the first few weeks after the world changes.
Of course other big questions come up.... What would you do to stay safe? What would you do to protect your family And friend? .....
I enjoyed it but could have been much better - was waiting for something exciting to happen and they kind of just meander around not doing much at all. The character development was great and the author is clearly talented and a very good writer which is what made it disappointing to me - a lot of potential.
Also many story lines were introduced but went nowhere. Maggies visions for instance never explained and felt out of place in the story. Was the guy that followed Maggie on the trail malevolent? You never find out. Etc etc.
Another frustration was that despite the characters almost being killed, raped or bashed multiple times they still refuse to carry loaded guns instead keeping the mags seperate to the guns and in their backpacks - odd, very odd. They also have access to multiple farms but instead choose to stay at a small house close to town and post no guards or defences whatsoever. Aargh how dumb can they be.
I look forward to future books from the author just put some more action in with more sensible characters
